Monika Streule es Doctora en Ciencias Sociales por la ETH Zúrich y Maestra en Antropología Social, Ciencias Políticas y Sociología por la Universidad de Zúrich, Suiza. Es profesora-investigadora de tiempo completo en el posgrado en Antropología Social de la Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México.
Ha llevado a cabo estancias posdoctorales en la London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) y el University College London (UCL), Reino Unido, como también en la Universidad HafenCity (HCU) Hamburgo, Alemania. Asimismo, ha realizado estancias de investigación por varias ocasiones en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) y la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Profesora invitada por la Universidad de Viena en 2019/2020. Obtuvo varias becas, entre ellas, el Marie-Skłodowska Curie Fellowship de la Unión Europea y el Fellowship for Prospective Researchers del Fondo Nacional de Ciencias de Suiza (SNSF).
Sus principales áreas de interés son los conflictos socioterritoriales por el extractivismo, los procesos de urbanización y las transformaciones urbanas desde una perspectiva comparativa, muchas veces en el marco del estudio etnográfico de la Ciudad de México. Su especialización incluye las teorías socioespaciales, los métodos y metodologías de investigación cualitativa, comparativa y creativa, como también la descolonización del conocimiento. Actualmente coordina el proyecto de investigación Territorialidades en resistencia frente a los extractivismos urbanos en la Universidad Iberoamericana que busca entender los conflictos socioambientales y el papel protagónico de las mujeres en las organizaciones sociales. El proyecto se orienta al estudio de los megaproyectos deportivos en el contexto del Mundial 2026.
